Kerala filed emergency plea on supreme court on Mullaperiyar issue

Amid rising political tensions among the neighboring states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the supreme court will consider today an urgent petition filed by Kerala govt

Citing imminent danger to around 13 lakhs people, Kerala demands the water level to be reduced to 120 feet with immediate effect and also seeks the court's approval for the construction of a new dam in place of the more than 100 years old existing dam.

Earlier on Dec 1, The Tamil Nadu govt moved the apex court alleging that Kerala, despite a status quo order by the supreme court, was making public statements and whipping up fear psychosis among Keralites about the safety of the dam.

The safety of the century-old dam is a great concern for the people living close to the dam site. If the dam collapses, who will be answerable for the thousands of lives that might be lost?

TN govt decided not to participate in the informal talk on the dam issue to be held in New Delhi on 5 December. It seems Tamil Nadu is not worried about the nightmare of the people who are living under constant threat of the dam collapse.
