Police escorted a Kerala state transport (KSRTC) bus going to Karnataka till the Tamil Nadu border in Hosur on 9 December after unidentified persons pelted stones at the bus.

The glasses of the bus broke in the attack; no casualties to passengers were reported.

Vandalism and attacks against Keralites and their commercial establishments have been reported in Tamil Nadu following the Mullaperiyar issue. Earlier, Kerala state Congress President Ramesh Chennithala said that with a series of tremors taking place in and around the dam site, people in Idukki and the four neighbouring districts are living in perennial fear and suggested that the only solution to this is a new dam.

DMK president and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi Friday urged the state government to call an all-party meet to discuss the Mullaperiyar Dam issue.

Two different associations of theatre owners in Tamil Nadu have sent out mixed signals on whether or not cinemas will be shut Dec 15 on the Mullaperiyar Dam issue. One says they will and the other says they won't.

Contrary to Kerala’s claims, Tamil Nadu says the dam is safe. A recent film, about a possible catastrophe caused by the dam explosion, named “Dam 999” was banned in Tamil Nadu on the pretext that it could ignite passions and cause a law and order situation in the state.
