Pakistan govt and military on direct confrontation!

Pakistan PM Gilani on Wednesday sacked Secretary of Defence Khalid Naeem Lodhi. In a related development, the army chief summoned an emergency meeting of the corps commanders. Also on Wednesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations issued a statement saying the prime minister’s recent interview to a Chinese daily may have “very serious ramifications with potentially grievous consequences for the country.”

Meanwhile, the powerful Army on Wednesday changed the commander of a Rawalpindi-based unit that has traditionally played a vital role in military coups. Media reports said Brig Sarfaraz Ali was named the new commander of the 111 Brigade, an infantry formation that is part of the X Corps and has usually been called out during past military takeovers to take over key buildings and installations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Army chief Kayani may not be interested in a coup as the tensions between the Govt and the army have started sometime back and the army all the while kept its cool.  Kayani may be looking out for the Pak supreme court to take action and dismiss the current government as the court has shown its displeasure on the govt regarding corruption and mismanagement.
